Trunnions for offshore decommissioning project

Fabrication works of two trunnions used for a decommissioning project. Since the dimensions of the hook did not allow fitting the grommets over the cranehook, a trunnion with endcaps and lifting eyes was designed. The trunnions are to facilitate the grommer in a basket configuration for a 900+ ton lift. The trunnions are fitted with closing caps and lifting eyes for proper handling whilst mobilizing. As usual, the engineering was performed by our sister company Saltwater Engineering.

The trunnions are milled from high tensile steel with a yield point of 969 N/mm 2 in order to cope with the occurring forces required for the engineered lift.

Challenges and solutions

Main challenge was the timeframe in which these two trunnions needed to be made. The short lines between the engineering and subsequent production proved again to be of great benefit as this resulted in the shortest lead time possible.
